Tuesday Hooks - Soul's Tyranny Edition

Posted by Michael Donaldson in ,

The body is but a vessel for the soul, a puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny. And lo, the body is not eternal, for it must feed on the flesh of others, lest it return to the dust whence it came. Therefore must the soul deceive, despise and murder men. - Sydney Losstarot, "Vagrant Story"

Adventure Hooks after the jump!

  •  The PCs return home from their adventures only to find that the local aristocracy has been completely replaced by a relatively bloodless coup in their absence. While the party never quite got along with the stricter old government, this new group of nobles goes out of their way to please and pamper the party, treating them like celebrities. At all times they seem uneasy and almost subservient to the group, and defer questions about their loyalty and intentions with vague replies and silver-tongued flattery. Who are these noblemen serving, and what is the nature of their keen interest in the group?
  • In the middle of the PCs campaign to defeat the marauding bandit lord Gael, they are surprised one evening to find the infamous leader in their camp offering himself up for capture. He claims that he has seen the error of his ways, but feels that without the party's aid he will be executed for his crimes. Gael offers the party an ultimatum - they can help him gain clemency and he will cease his campaign of murder and thievery across the region, or he will return to his band of thieves and continue his rampage - a rampage that has had a severe impact on local trade. Will the PCs trust him? Can they convince the local government - who are quite thirsty for his blood - to forgive and forget?
  • Agents of the crown have finally returned from a year-long espionage mission within the heart of the dark citadel of a powerful ghoul tyrant, the Marrowfiend, whose armies grow daily and whose influence threatens to darken the fields of the far west in a terrible war. Abruptly, he levels accusations that the PCs are servants of the dark ghoul, and presents a multitude of documents that 'prove' his allegations. Wanted posters bearing the faces of the party spring up all over the kingdom, and suddenly they are fugitives. How can the party face these formerly friendly opponents? Can they clear their name? Has the agent been corrupted by the Marrowfiend, or has the ghoul lord himself taken in interest in eradicating the party?
